Gavin Osteen, who played 13 years with the A's,
Orioles, Dodgers, Pirates, and Angels organizations,
has spent the last six years teaching pitching and
hitting fundamentals to kids 6-19 years of age, from
all over Central PA.
It all started one off-season
while he was still playing pro ball, with 1-5 lessons
per week, and has grown into his full-time job, making
retirement from pro baseball an easy transition. " I
loved playing pro ball, but at the end of my career, I
found that I was getting much more satisfaction
teaching kids the game than playing it. There is no
better feeling than seeing the look in these kids'
eyes when they do something that they never thought
they could do, like throwing harder, making the ball
move, etc. This is where I'm supposed to be."
Gavin grew up in Annville and currently lives in the
Hershey area with his wife Jennifer. His son,
Derrick, is a student at Cedar Crest H.S. and also
plays on the schools varsity baseball team. Also,
Gavin's 1986 Annville-Cleona Baseball team won the AA
State Championship.
